"The Thin Man"
... is just a wonderful movie. With lots and lots and lots and lots of alcohol. William Powell and Myrna Loy are incredible together - natural and witty and sophisticated and ingenious and heavy drinking. Very heavy. Yup. Lots of alcohol. Lots and lots and lots of alcohol. And the script is dynamite (Albert Hackett and Frances Goodrich, working with the Dashiell Hammett novel.)

And lots of drinks.

And a murder. And a dog.

And lots more drinks.

I believe I'd like one now.

My mom had that same breed of dog when she was little and she names it Asta.

I heart these movies my mom and I would stay up for the late night show on PBS on Saturday's they played these, Sherlock Holmes and Charlie Chan.

And to think this was back when excessive drinking and smoking was good for you. Such a romantic period!

There are times when I wish that excessive drinking and smoking were healthy, and that we could all drive large gas-guzzling cars without damaging the environment - oh, and that we could all live in those gorgeous New York hotel-style apartments and wear the outrageously fashionable clothes. Ah, but that's what the movies are for, eh?

I liked the TV show. Peter Lawford was cool.

There was a television show? I love Peter Lawford, and he was, indeed, cool - but could he match William Powell?

Also, I think your icon is most elegant.

I sometimes think I'm the only one who remembers the TV show.

I just checked some out on YouTube. Lawford's appealing, but Powell has him beaten all hollow for me, I'm afraid.

And speaking of drunks and dogs, you are also a fan of Thorne Smith, aren't you?

Of "The Passionate Witch" fame? That's the one with which (see what I did there?) I remember. I enjoyed it, as I recall.
