Dept. of Awesome

Agents of SHIELD

Don't believe the negative hype. As of last night's episode, this show is officially Made of Awesome.

I have been sort of half-watching it so far but last night's episode was pretty great. I love Fitz-Simmons, ahh.

And the typical Whedonesque turns (yes, I know he's not doing the writing, but it has his posse's fingerprints all over it); I was certain that the big twist actually came, well, before the Big Finish.

And Fitz and Simmons are becoming more and more fleshed out. As is May, which pleases me. And Coulson, who just gets more awesome to me, the more you see the vulnerability. Even Ward is growing a personality, even if it's in ways that fit a particular trope.

Oh cool, how so?

And yes, it's neat to see everyone coming more into themselves. :)

It did the Dollhouse thing of five really disappointing eps and then a sixth episode that was suddenly awesome! I'd been hoping that it was just taking a little while to get itself together, so I was really pleased as punch to have my hopes prove justified. I found this episode both riveting and moving. It helped that this one focused on my favorite characters (Coulson, Simmons, Fitz) with fairly minimal Skye and Ward. The additional insights into May were good as well.

And it has the added joy of a pretty elegant plot as well, in terms of exploring the "It's Not a Bad Guy; It's Bad Luck" concept, and using it as a way to see further into a very vulnerable Coulson.
