Dept. of Horn Tooting

 For Your (Possible) Who Edification

Remember the pictures I posted that I took when I and my family went to see "Day of the Doctor"? Well, here's the story that I wrote for my company (yes, I managed to see the the episode and get paid for it - go me!) It was written for general consumption, but I tried to add some little bits for fans. If you read it, hope you enjoy it!

The accompanying video was done by one of our freelancers. It's not done the way I would have done it, most certainly. She focused on me and it was only through herculean efforts by my Best Beloved that we managed to get her attention on some of the other fans. She also wanted to work with "shaky cam" stylings. Again, not what I would have done - but it's also there for your amusement.

Huh: apparently  the video alone won't embed, so here's the link: http://video.suntimes.com?vcid=25387912&freewheel=58285&sitesection=suntimes

Gorgeous write-up (though I wouldn't have expected any less from you) and I got a little bit of something in my eye reading it. I'm also impressed with you admitting that you write fic in print like that with your real name attached and everything.

I loved the little quotes and asides, the nice sum-up of the show, and the stories of people coming to watch. Like you say, everyone's got their own reason for loving this show, but it's something special for all of that love to unite people (in 94 countries!). It might be a bit silly, but the world could use a bit more of this kind of intellect and romance.

Heh. I'm a writer in a business where people are always accusing reporters of doing a horrible job of writing. I have no fear of getting any additional opprobrium about fanfic. *g*

Glad you got the quotes and asides.

Amen to that!

Great work! And how marvellous to be able to do something you absolutely love and get paid for it? :) Love the costumes in the video (though I could have definitely done without the shaky cam; why does anyone imagine that's fun to watch??), and your article's excellent :)

I was kind of tickled about that myself. And oh, how I do agree with you about the damned shaky cam. My husband groused about it, and I just shook my head. The lady is a hard worker and self-taught, I think, and I hope it's just a phase with her.

Yay! Great article, and spot-on. Wish I could have gone to a movie theater to see it, but I sure enjoyed watching it with our friends (relatively new but quite enthusiastic fans), too.

Oh, it's always fun to share the show with new fans - how did they like the 50th?

They loved it! And they agreed that they need to at least dabble in the classic series, because they saw that they were missing out on some of it. :)

Good for them! I'm going through Seven now, just got past his brief time with Mel, and have gone through two adventures with Ace, who is, of course, Ace.

What a wonderful write-up! I love that you got to report it from the perspective of being a fan. So many news outlets report on fannish goings-on with an attitude of "look at all those wacky nerds!" I think you did a really nice job balancing explanations for the uninitiated with fannish love.

But man, I could have done without that shaky cam. It feels like she was trying to create the effect of being inside a crashing TARDIS.

Thanks for the very kind words - I hate those kind of stories and definitely wanted to show how much love and respect I have for the show, and how much love and respect it deserves.

The shaky cam was awful.
