Dept. of Shopping Saturday

Costco!

Yes, I have to go shopping and yes, I can get ridiculously excited about going to Costco. I love shopping where they treat their employees like humans and pay them well. I love being able to find weird shit around corners when I least expect to. I love being able to stock up on stuff - stuff being anything that seems to be a good deal.

And the sun is shining, and I get to drive around in my little car for reasons that have nothing whatsoever to do with my work.

Yes, my world has become small enough that these things are reasons to rejoice. But you know, I don't care. I'm just going to rejoice.

I do feel bad for BB; he's running a recurrent fever, and has for the last several days. It has now been declared a reason for him to call the doctor on Monday, since we want to make sure that it's not something really serious, and we also want to make sure that we can get him feeling better. So perhaps I'll find a special treat for him at Costco .Hmmmmm ....

Then, of course, time to work on Chap. 23.

Find joy in all the little things! Best recipe for happiness. *nods head*

This so much as well.

I hope BB gets better! And good luck with the writing :)

Thanks for the wishes for BB; as he deals with a number of lung-related crapitude, we always want to be careful if he shows signs that could be interpreted as infection.

And you're so wise about the finding joy in the little things; I shouldn't really laugh too much at that, because little things are the building blocks for bigger things.

Indeed, better safe than sorry!

Little things are what makes life special… ^_^ (And provide highlights when things get difficult! =P)

I do like Costco, especially the unaged beef that I can cook without getting sick (hyperosmia, I think the condition is called), but I do get seriously annoyed when I have to walk through a good-sized village twice to find where they've moved stuff to since last time.

(Oh well, at least someone in an office a thousand miles away, who obviously has somebody else to do the shopping, gets to feel like a big shot.)

Is the hyperosmia a consistent obstacle for cooking? I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, surrounded by the odors/aromas/smells and/or occasional stenches caused by cooking of all kinds, and I would think it would be very difficult to cook and have to deal with that. Or is it just with meat?

but I do get seriously annoyed when I have to walk through a good-sized village twice to find where they've moved stuff to since last time.

I used to get annoyed, too. And then I decided to make it part of the game of treasure hunt. After all, since I can't change their policy, I might as well make it as much fun as possible. Heh.

It limits my tolerance for spices, but it's not too bad except for pepper. (Cinnamon, by the bye, is an incredibly good substitute in barbecue sauce. Plenty of bite to it-- use much less than you would pepper! I don't actually know what other people think of it because they won't stop eating long enough to talk to me. Inconsiderate, that's all.)

As for making it an adventure... most days I'm good for three hours' real work, all added up. Given what I got for one novel and how much time I put into my share, I figure an extra thirty minutes out of that means some jerk in middle management owes me about thirty-five dollars for every time this happens.

I'm nodding my head at this one; I put cinnamon into a great many things, and it makes sense that it could work in barbecue.

Right; I'd forgotten the fibromyalgia. That kicks adventure right the fuck out the window, you're right. BB deals with moderate FB and that's bad enough. He can make it through an afternoon of Costcoing, but it leaves him pretty dead thereafter.

Do you shop using the motorized carts? At least their aisles are usually big enough to maneuver them.

I keep forgetting they have the bloody things.

I haven't needed to use them myself, but on very tired days I do eye them a bit.

I tend to glare at them on the way out.

Costco is a really wonderful place to shop. I've got fond memories of going there as a kid with my mom for "Costco lunch" (aka, all of the samples).

Here's hoping that BB is feeling better soon.

And also, best of luck on chapter 23. (something I should probably have asked a long while back, but are you posting these chapters online somewhere?)

Heh ... I've had more than my share of Costco lunches.

(But you're making me feel extremely old by saying you remember going there as a kid - I was in my late 40s when Costco arrived in Chicago. Sigh ... *totters off to rocking chair* )

(Something I should probably have asked a long while back, but are you posting these chapters online somewhere?)

Hearts & Moons is on this LJ, and you could get to it by hitting the "my fanfic" tag - but it's probably easier to read the whole thing over on Teaspoon, where it's right here.

If it makes you feel better, it was the very early 90s and the store was still running under the name, "Price Club".

Aha - I remember reading a history of the club, and its beginning as Price Club. Now I don't feel so old. Heh. But they still give out all the wonderful samples. MMMmmm.

Do you remember the first Warehouse Club? Just north of Touhy, next to the railroad tracks, I forget which suburb it is (maybe Skokie, past a bunch of the AB Dick plants). Ah the late '80s....

Do you remember the first Warehouse Club?

Oh, god, yes! In fact, that was the place where we fell in love with bulk shopping; I still have some of the spice containers we bought there, because they were so good for storage. We were members through Pioneer. And it was in Niles.

Ohhh, sounds like Joy!! And they may be small things, but sometimes it is those small things that give us the MOST Joy!! So have some Joy, bb!!

Arrrghhh...hope BB feels better soon. And that this goes away fast...

YUS. I'll be waiting, lovie!

You and I know about little joys, don't we? And how's your hubby (and his computer) doing?

*Beams* We do indeed, lovie.

He's doing a tad better (and by tad, I mean MUCH) and he's got the damned thing limping. We just need a better OS and some major adjustments to the RAID system (which will be a learning process methinks) - and we will have a fully functioning machine (with a bigger HD) - it'll just take us a little time.

I know there are some Costcos in that quarter of the world, but they are definitely in other nations. But perhaps Costco will eventually make it to where you are!

BB is feeling a little better today, thanks!

Sadly, I've yet to experience Costco. The nearest one is about an hour away.

Give my love to BB -- hope he gets better soon!

I miss you. Thinking of the bits of time we've been able to spend together is one of those small things that makes me happy.

I can wax quite politically poetic (I declare that there is such a thing) about Costco. At this point, if the only one was two hours away, I'd make a special trip every one or two months. Such a Costco addict. Heh.

BB is feeling a little better now, but I'm a little worried about the recurrent fever. I want him to get to his rheumatoligist as quickly as possible.

I miss you, too. We've had some pretty darned good times. I remember the trip up to Wiscon last year with a_phoenixdragon, all of us mashed into the little orange car, and stopping in that little town with the town square, having lunch; it was pretty wonderful.

There's one on the far west side of Madison (okay, in Middleton, but next to the Beltline). If you guys are both at WisCon this year.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it this year due to work requirements. So bummed.
