Dept. of Cats

Opie Update

Well, the twins are now in the hands of my lovely daughter of the heart and her sweetie. I am so grateful to them, and I will check in regularly, to see how the twins are treating her and her own two kitties. Their place is much larger than our tiny condo and that should, in theory at least, give all the cats room to be away from each other.

Opie is already calming down. He immediately began defecating in the box, which is half the problem solved. He is still peeing on the mat leading into the cat box at night, so tonight we'll remove the mat so that, if it's the trigger, it isn't there to trigger his action. We'll take off the top of the cat box, and make sure the litter is relatively fresh, but still smells like him, and we'll see if that helps him with remembering that it's OK to pee inside the box.

And there you have it, the Neurotic Cat Report for Sunday. As for the rest of the day, I'm going to make some salsa verde, do my exercises (which have been upped to some very challenging ones, which is why I'm hanging around online and not doing them, augh, and go Costco-ing. Because that's my idea of a fun Sunday. Heh.

Glad your kitties are doing better. They don't deal well with change, poor things. I highly recommend Nature's Miracle Just for Cats Urine Destroyer for cleaning up accidents and making them less likely to become repeat pee-offending places.

Thanks for the good wishes, on Opie's behalf. As of last night, he managed to use the cat box for everything, albeit with the top off overnight. Tonight we'll give him a completely clean cat box and maybe put the cat box top on, and see if he's willing to go in.

Nature's Miracle is very familiar to us, since we used it many years ago for a couple of cats who repeatedly pee'd on the carpet. It's pretty darned good. Right now, we're looking for our nearest Petco, in order to buy the Feliway; his emotional needs are stronger than the scent of accidents (thank heavens they've been on the floor, or on a rubber mat to date!)

So glad the kitties are doing relatively well all around. Poor Opie! He'll settle soon, honey.

And yay for that!! Just did all my errand running today, myself. No rest for the wicked, lovie.

Heh - I'd like to think neither of us are wicket, but here we are, still running around like jackrabbits with fleas in our undies.

*hugs back*

Thanks so much; the atmosphere around Casa Kathbob is cooling out with satisfying rapidity.

He seems to be continuing to improve; we'll make sure that he has a clean box in which to do his business, or at least as clean as possible, every day, and maybe keep the cat box top off at night for the next couple of nights, until he's well and truly back in the proper box habits.

You have no idea how happy we all are - especially Opie (who looks much like the ginger cat in your icon, going by the back. We have two gingers, Opie and Alex, and they are often found in that pose.)

It's no fun when pets are miserable.

Aw!

A miserable pet is nobody's friend.

Least of all their own. He's doing better now; we'll see if the elimination problem is solved, as well.

That's some relief for Opie, and good the twins will be well taken care of! I hope everything goes well for you besides :)

The twins are definitely in good hands, and Opie, with one slip-up, appears to be back as close to normal as Opie ever gets.
