Dept. of Being Grateful

Things That Make Me Happy

Being able to hold really neat conversations with friends and acquaintances on LJ and Dreamwidth. Doing so helps keep my brain active, and my heart warm. Thanks, all!

Being able to enjoy a cold glass of sake (yes, one can enjoy sake cold, as well as warm.)

Having a new light bulb in my lava lamp, thanks to my beloved BB. We do indeed turn on the lamp every night, and a few nights ago, the original bulb burned out. So BB mailed away for a new one, and we got it, and the light is burning again. Hurrah!

Having BB. Just having him.

Or perhaps I should say, just knowing him. I don't "have" him, because he isn't something to be had, he's someone. But knowing that he and I are a team? That's the best thing ever.

Being able to write the first 296 words of Chapter 25, and know that they are the right first 296 words.

Rereading The Goblin Emperor and wishing that the author would change her mind and write a sequel, and then being glad that she wrote The Goblin Emperor in the first place.

Having a submarine sandwich from Capt'n Nemo's. Really. Capt'n Nemo's rocks.

These are all good things. And this has been a pretty good Saturday.

he Goblin Emperor and wishing that the author would change her mind and write a sequel,

I would e really happy if she changed her mind about that, too. There is so much cool worldbuilding that could still be explored, and so many characters that I'd like to get to know better.

I totally agree. I want to know more about Barizhan (sic?) and the lands beyond both the Elflands and the Goblin lands; I want to know more about Csethiro and Arbelan and Csevet and, oh, so many others, not to mention seeing how Maia grew as a ruler and a person.

I should feel guilty that I'm rereading it and not getting through Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, but I'm not feeling guilty. Much.

Yes, all of these! Csethiro and Csevet ended up being some of my favorite characters, and Arbelan was fascinating, too, and I would've loved to see more of Maia's goblin family, especially his aunt the sea-captain, who sounded pretty cool. And seeing Maia grow up and grow further into his role of Emperor would be great, also.

I cannot blame you as far as Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. I tried reading it years ago, and ran out of steam (and allowed renewals at the library) around page 350. Now I'm trying again, partly for my bingo, partly because of the show, and it's perfectly pleasant, it's just not gripping me, like, at all...

Yeah, I definitely thought so, too!

I've started back on JS&MN, and I'm hoping to make some headway.

I've been on LJ eleven years going on twelve. I've watched people migrate off to places like Facebook, Dreamwidth, and Tumblr. I've accounts places like those, but I come back to LJ because it's still the best place I've found for good conversation. I'm happy to have good conversations with you. :D

I've been online since the mid-1990s, and discovered my first online community back in the days of Usenet (anyone out there still remember rec.arts.sf.fandom? No? Ah, well), and then a lovely community via the comment bulletin boards on Television Without Pity, but I didn't discover LJ until late 2006, early 2007.

Since then, LJ and Dreamwidth have been my home because it allows for lengthy conversations. Other platforms? Not so much.

I have a FB account, which comes in handy when looking for long-lost friends and relatives, and keeping people apprised during health emergencies, but not much else. I Twitter largely for news, and I don't Tumblr at all. Don't understand how anyone can use Tumblr for meaningful conversations.

And, oh my goodness yes, the chats we've had have been great!

I have found so many wonderful people online over the years, and despite being out there in the working world and having some good RL friends, I have discovered that I have much more lively relationships online than I do in three dimensions.

Hope your weekend has been good, too!

Oh, you should get your lava lamp out and use it! I find it remarkably calming after a bad day. Heh.

It's such a seductive story; you're rooting for the main character from page 1 on, and despite the risk the author ran of making him a Gary Stu, she avoids it. Instead, he's just this enormously likable person to whom unimaginable things happen, in a really richly detailed world ... yeah, definitely a fan, here. Heh.

Lovely things. And I love the way you see them, and enjoy every single one of them, and share them. Heart-warming :)

If I'm going to spend time online talking about the bad or sad things, then I'm going to try to share the bright and good things as well!
