These aren't ticky boxes, they're "radio buttons", and I picked "impolitic DW opinions" but I also wanted to pick Caprica.

Agh. And it won't let me edit it.

Canada whoot! I've been ignoring the Olympics, but patriotism requires that I get excited over that.

Heh - I made my son furious with my screaming; and that's despite the fact he's a Canadian fan. When they lost the chance to win it in regular time with seconds to spare I screamed so loudly, and so profanely, that he got up and stomped out of the room, saying my voice was too piercing. Sigh.

Fuck 'im if he can't take a joke, eh?

He's right, though. My voice is piercing.

PS, congratulations Canada!

Wasn't it, though?

I've been a bit wary up til now--I liked it, but it didn't suck me in. but I really, really like Tamara and I'm interested in her story. I think it's just that Tamara is a much more sympathetic character than Zoe is, to me. And I liked the way the last episode was set up.

I picked DW, but really, I'd love to see you post about anything!
Mar. 1st, 2010 01:23 am (UTC)
You, my dear, are sweet. Insanely accepting of my inane babbling, but sweet.
Mar. 1st, 2010 01:24 am (UTC)
OK, I "voted".
So, why the stupid choices?
Mar. 1st, 2010 01:29 am (UTC)

Glad you asked: I thought I'd write about Caprica because, against the odds I think they were fighting, the creative team behind Battlestar Galactica have created a series that, even this early into the first season, is a worthy successor, both artistically and thematically. I thought I'd write about a couple of DW opinions I have that I'm guessing a goodly number of my f'list definitely don't have, and I'm looking at the chance to get them off my chest, with the added challenge of doing so diplomatically enough to maintain said f'list. As for the hockey? Well; do you really need to ask?

Waitaminnit! You're supposed to tell me why you think the choices are stupid, silly Martian!

I picked "Caprica" but I would have also chosen the DW opinions. :D
Mar. 1st, 2010 01:44 am (UTC)
Maybe I'll do both, eh?
Mar. 1st, 2010 01:45 am (UTC)
Works for me! :D I'm very curious about your views on Caprica, because I love it so much.

Canada scored the winning goal just as we were going into a restuarant for supper (mongolian bbq). On the way home we passed several hockey fans along Pembina Highway with their flags, hockey sticks (or signs) and beers.

OOOooo, Mongolian barbeque - fantastic! And the closing ceremony rocked. Funny and wonderful!

I rooted for the Canadian hockey team because I believe that all Canadians are Honorary Cub Fans and, well, solidarity, right?

But please know when I selected "ticky box" I was meaning "Giant Inflatable Beavers."

I just realized something: if that had been the Minneapolis Olympics they would've been Giant Inflatable Beavers (say it with me)... ON A STICK!!!
Mar. 1st, 2010 08:11 am (UTC)
And it's rmjwell for the win!

Thanks but the Calgary Times liveblogging of the festivities is hilarious:

"As the song they were singing was called “The Maple Leaf Forever,” it seemed fitting that some maple leafs should next dance onto the stage followed by a group of dancing canoes. It was all very Canadian, especially when the enormous beavers stampeded onto the stage – with “made in Canada” stamped on their tails. And if that wasn't surreal enough, massive moose started floating through the sky.

Vanoc CEO John Furlong promised in an earlier speech that the world would learn more about Canada from these games, but this closing number might leave the world a bit confused about the size of our beavers, the buoyancy of our moose, and the seriousness of our Mounties."
