Doctor Who 30 Day Meme
Once again, it is with surprise and delight that I can give only one answer.
Also, because it's getting a little lengthy, I'll refrain from providing links to each previous day's answers, and do an all-in-one.

Day 09 - A Who-Related Photo That Makes You Angry or Sad.
I didn't have to think much at all, except to say that this is courtesy of one of the marvelous motivator makers over at Television Without Pity's "My Motivation is This" thread.
     This one
makes me both angry and sad. Let's face it, there are so many other things the Doctor could have done, so many things that would have convinced me that he respected his Companion, that he cared for her.* What he did was to find the quickest, dirtiest band-aid response one could think of - and he never even considered working something else out after he'd stopped the initial crisis.  Donna needn't have remained the DoctorDonna, because I can accept that it might well have killed her. But there is no way that the Doctor couldn't have found a way to return her memories to her, not with the skills he has, and all his Time Lord Learnings. Instead, he took the cheap and easy way out, and indulged in massive wangst and wandered off  ... Oh, I'm not going to get started on it, because it just makes me furious. Which, of course, fits the bill perfectly for Day 09.

(And, frankly, so many better ways RTD could have written this, but that's a whole 'nother rant.)

URGH, YES! This made me so mad at both the Doctor and RTD.

I understand the writer's urge to show that the World Is Not Fair, and I suspect that's what RTD was looking to show us. But if that was his intention, I think he could have made an even better case for it by engineering a situation in which Donna had her memories, but for some reason could no longer travel with the Doctor. In fact, that would be an even more powerful way to put the message across.

Edited to provide a DEW line, my dear.

(While I understand the strength of the imagery, I am ultimately comforted by the concrete reality that this is an imaginary power, wielded by a fictional character against another fictional character. I am extremely glad that such an ability doesn't exist in our own world, which is already bedeviled with the very real and horrific physical and emotional rapes of real women, children and men.)

I've always felt that this scene and the Doctor's action here was a case of writers sacrificing characterisation in order to obtain a desired outcome - just as the Doctor and Rose's behaviour in Tooth and Claw was, and probably a few other instances as well. It was awful, and it still remains a horrible thing to have done - and, like you, I can't believe that the Doctor couldn't have found another solution, or that he didn't want to find another solution given how much Donna meant to him. Even if he couldn't ever be around her again, I can't believe he wouldn't want her to remember all the amazing things she did.

So... I blame the writers, not the Doctor, because it really is too out of character for me to accept it from him, if that doesn't sound too weird *g*

Yeah, I'd really like to sit down with RTD and ask him, writer to writer, (yeah, I know: fanfic writer to published and famous screenwriter. Ahem.) what his thought processes were. I think I'd ask him if, at this point and given the chance to redo what he did, he might not create a different fate, a different ending, for Donna. I'd particularly like to ask him why he felt the need to write her out of all possible future appearances in such a way.

Tooth and Claw was actually the first episode I saw, so maybe it has colored my view of the RTD years...but in what way was their behavior out of character and inappropriate? I've heard similar complaints from other people, but I always just thought of it as a very silly, campy episode.
