Dept. of anti-Gafiation

I Appear to Be ...

... going to Wiscon, courtesy of the indefatigable and demonstrably insane ljgeoff . She is a wonder of nature - something I already suspected before now, and know now with breathtaking certainty - and is even now making her way to my place to crash before we had from Chicago to Madison in the morning.

This is, mind you, after she drove from Michigan to Chicago to Madison once today, in order to handle the scheduling needs of another Wiscon-bound friend. After which she Turned Around And Came Back. To get me.

So ... my first full con in *thinks back* eight years. The last one was Minicon.

I've never been to Wiscon, but I think I'll know some of y'all there. I'll be on the lookout. I'll also be in the audience, cheering ljgeoff  and rarelylynne  at their Dr. Who-oriented panel. And doing, you know, con stuff. On a teeeeeeny-tiny budget. And I think I'm going to like it.

Fandom ... yeah, it's a way of life, even after all this time. Heh.

YAY! That will obviously be awesome.

Yup - I'm here, and already have gone to one very interesting panel. I've also run into at least two people from home - one from another section of my very own newsroom (and a Hugo winner at that.) The world is a small place!

Oh, aye, it is that!

Oh, cool! I hope you have a great time. And travel safely!

Thanks! We traveled safely, and took some back roads to get away from road construction. It made it a far more enjoyable journey than it might otherwise have been.

Sounds great! Have a wonderful time!

As I said, it's my first con in eight years, and one I've never been to before, but one is never too old to try something new, right?

I look forward to reading any comments/convention report you decide to post. I haven't been to Wiscon in a frightfully long time, but I'm inclined to think you will have strong reactions to it. In many ways, it's likely to feed your soul. Savor it! In other ways, it's likely to lead to cogent commentary from you on feminist, race, and class politics as well as on convention-running.

I'm doing the happy dance with you, and am full of thanks and gratitude to ljgeoff. Enjoy!

I ran into Neil Rest almost immediately, and got to meet *thinks with her very weak brain* Velma for the very first time (hope I didn't get her name wrong; I remember her from RASFF because she sent me some musk-flavored lifesavers following a discussion sometime waaaaay back in the 1990s.

Oh my god, I feel old.

I don't know how much convention reporting I'll do. We'll see. Love you, dear!

Yes, Velma. I don't know if she's been to Wiscon before, but you may have missed the part of our conversation about how it's been way many years since we've seen each other in the flesh.
Your being here is A Good Thing.

I'm glad it's A Good Thing - seeing you was equally A Good Thing

Have fun!

That is what all my weekend strategies and tactics will be focused on ... heh.
May. 28th, 2011 06:40 am (UTC)
Ooh, that sounds so cool! Have a fantastic time.

It's thus far been very, very good - I've developed a bum foot, which makes my progress slower than I'd like, but it's a very tiny downside.
