When Life Gets You Down, Dance With an Owl*

Thanks to canaana  and yamx  for linking to this. It's so wonderful — and the music is so very hummable — that I figured I'd just present it (via link, because it simply won't embed) for the edification of everyone who needs a smile. It is, perhaps, no surprise that I'm typing this with two cats asleep on my legs.

*Notice how I manfully avoided using an Edward Lear reference?

That's adorable.

I miss having pets.

With luck, some day you'll be able to have pets again; when you did have them, did you have cats, dogs, birds, lizards, fish? (I'm leaving out insects because, while perfectly nice people do indeed keep pet tarantulas ... eeeeeuuuuwwww.

My family had two cats (brother and sister) that we got when I was in preschool; it's been a few years since the second of them, our favorite, had to be put to sleep. We miss them, but my parents are going to be taking at least one out-of-the-country trip every year for the foreseeable future for work, and we're moving to Thailand as soon as we can.

We also had pet rats when I was in junior high and highschool, but after watching them die from what looked like pretty awful respiratory diseases, we decided we couldn't handle that again.

Anyway, didn't mean to be depressing. Cats are awesome, and I intend to get a cute petite Thai kitty if I can (all the cats I ever saw in Thailand are tiny, even the full-grown ones).

Yeah, having to outlive pets, and seeing them deal with illness is truly sad; you want to hug them and explain what's going on, and tell them you're trying to make it better for them, and of course all they understand is that they hurt, and they'd like you to stop it. Only the joy of having pets as friends makes up for the sadness of having to let them go.

But that's the same thing we go through with people, I think; it has to do with the nature of love.

I hope you're able to find a wonderful little Thai kitty!

I will share that with the boys when they drag themselves from bed at the crack of noon.

Re: fun
Heh - I remember teenage boys and their sleep patterns. Did your young hockey player have a satisfactory end to his tournament?

Re: fun
My son's team won the tournament. They were undefeated in round robin play (with a tie against Nova Scotia as their single blot). It was a Canadian rules football tournament.

If you are interested I can post a link to some game highlights on my LJ.

Re: fun
I would be interested! (And you'll forgive me if I'm the tiniest bit tickled that your son's one tie was against Nova Scotia. Go, Bluenosers!)

Re: fun
Posted. The Bluenosers are in white and blue. My son's team is in black.

Gives a whole new meaning to that scene in the Addams Family: Wendy Play with your food. As awesome predators, I wonder if they hunt together. Think I've just got inspiration for a short sy-fy piece! Thanks for sharing.

If they're as goofy during the rest of the day as they are with each other, I imagine all the potential prey out there are laughing themselves sick at the idea. Although I liked one of the comments I read under the video: "And at night they go out and fight crime together."
