High Noon
I'm sitting with one cat on my knee, watching High Noon and remembering how well it was put together. A very 1950's style movie, and it seems to me to be almost television-like; but perhaps that's what I like about it, or at least it goes towards what I like about the movie. It's such a stylized piece, and it used real time brilliantly - decades before 24 made a huge deal of it. Gary Cooper is amazing; his acting in this is a revelation: tired, afraid, disappointed, disgusted, hopeless, determined. It's bleak - but it lives up to all the hype.
