Dept.. of So Here I Am

Well, I Did It

I went and bought a paid Dreamwidth Account. The rude and lackwitted foolishness of LJ's current drivers (L'affaire Subject Lines specifically) has made me realize that there are other pastures in which to amble.

I don't know if I'll let my LJ paid account lapse; I do like having the options a paid account keeps. I think I'll see how much I post here, or whether I start cross-posting (or whatever it is that all you Young Technophiles do.)  My options could alter if LJ decides to come to its collective senses about the most recent foolishness.

In other news - we finished our Christmas/Holiday/Turn of the Year shopping and bought a Tree. It's going to be the Best Tree Ever!

Oh, yeah, and my company just got sold.

(Oh, and this was posted over at DW. I just haven't puzzled out how to make it say that. Shush. I am, in fact, afflicted with the inability to read DW's not-even-really-technical how-to's. I really can't read how-to's very well, especially when there are words I can't put into my own idiosyncratic context.)

And I shall do the same for you!

I've now subscribed to you there.

How to do the say-this-is-crossposted thing, I'll give you a step-by-step, but please forgive me if it isn't clear enough.

1. Click on "Account Settings".
2. Click on "Other Sites".
3. There is a section on the page which says "Crosspost Settings"
4. There is a section which says "Add the footer to the post on the other site:" Select the option which says "Always".
5. You can, if you like, customize the footer, but the default one is fine.

Thanks - you may find it hard to believe, but you just made it a lot easier to understand than when I read the very same thing over on that page!

There've been a few good books about the sudden zillionaires of the internet, but I'm waiting for one or two on how most of them then totally screwed up.
eBay was a license to print money and they are loathed and reviled. Did you notice that MySpace recently was sold for 1/20 of what it sold for 6 years ago? Anyone remember AOL?
I see livejournal and facebook in an odd sort of competition to see who can shoot themselves in the most feet. I really wish Google weren't looking like the centipede who was paralyzed by trying to think how it walked.

p.s. -- is the company being sold (it's the first time in a couple of years, iirc) a not good thing or an awful thing?
