Dept. of Last Minute Jitters

Operation Surprise The Hell Out of Mom Is a Go

Repeat, we are go for the True North.

Tomorrow morning at 8:15 a.m. we head for the airport. I, of course, am a mess, because that's how I roll when it comes to travel. I love it, once I'm on the way. The hours leading up to it? The night before? Not so much.

Also, I've been dealing with severe separation anxiety for the past 48 hours. From the cats. The cats, FFS. (But they've never been left alone before, the little voice mutters, gleefully anthropormorphizing animals with brains the size of walnuts and no inherent ethical barriers to eating me if there was no other food in the house, and I couldn't move fast enough, nothing personal, you understand ... But it's Alex! And Opie! And Phil! And they're going to be lonely, and wonder where we are! No, damnit. Walnut brains, amoral carnivores! No, they're not! They're fluffy warm friends! Oh, I'm such a bad human!)

Yeah. Like that.

Luckily, Bob is around to keep me calm. (I almost said grounded, but that's such an unfortunate word to use in connection with air travel.) And my beloved First Born will be taking care of the cats on a daily basis, and since he's lived with them and loves them, he'll also be petting them like crazy. So, my advice to myself?

Calm the frak down.

We should remain fairly connected over the trip. Taking the laptop and the phone, so I hope to post regular updates.

Wish us luck!

Welcome Back! Even if your are a couple or few miles east of here.

Heh. Yeah, just a couple few miles. Thanks; it's my first time back in about three years, but Bob's first time in almost 10.

Good luck!

And nothing wrong with separation anxiety over cats! I've got 2 and i adore them to bits. They are my babies, along with my closest friends and family they've been the one constant in my life for 11 years, and i worry about them when i leave them.

Hope you have a good trip!

Another member of the "Cats Are Important To Me" club - fantastic! Thanks for your good wishes. We're in motion now, and I'm much more calm about everything. In fact, as long as I'm connected to Teh Intarwebz (addicted much, woman?) I'm more than fine.

I'm having a wonderful time - the airline we're using, Porter, has a wonderful lounge, with free tea, coffee, cookies and almonds, plus lots of places to plug in, and free wireless, so here I am, posting to LJ and having a nice cuppa. Not Earl Grey, since I confess I'm not fond of it, but a good solid orange pekoe. Heh.

Have a great trip!

Thanks - it's been good so far, with the exception of them taking my Costco toothpaste away because it was too big a tube. Ah, well ....

Good luck, bb!! I'm keeping everything crossed for you!

Thank you, my dear! (I hope you finally got some sleep last night; did the upstairs neighbors ever calm down?)

about 40 minutes later...ugh. But let's not discuss my massive need for chocolate right now, lol!!

You ready to take off, already landed? *Bounces with excitement and happeh*
May. 29th, 2012 07:05 pm (UTC)
Chocolate. MMMmmm. They gave us free chocolates on our first flight. And free booze should we desire it (I didn't), and a free and very filling snack. I can't recommend Porter Airlines enough.

We're about 50 minutes from boarding the last flight. We'll head to Ottawa from here to pick up other passengers, so I don't think we'll get off the plane. And from there, we head directly to Halifax, where we'll be greeted at the gate by my brother Officer Friendly.

Dude...I wanna fly with them!! Anywhere, really, lol!

Have a good flight, lovely lady - see you on the other side!

*Blows you long distance kisses*

Good luck and, oh thank heavens, I'm not the only person with crazy stupid separation anxiety when it comes to the cats...
May. 29th, 2012 06:45 pm (UTC)
Oh, yeah, the little buggers grow on us, don't they? Thanks for the good wishes - and many, many, many good wishes back to you!

I hope the trip is wonderful and worth all the pre-travel jitters. Be safe and enjoy yourself. I know I don't feel relaxed until I here the Flight Attendant say to fasten seat belts and turn off electronic devices. From that moment on, I know everything is out of my hands and into the hands of the pilot and the Almighty.

Thanks - once I'm past the metal detectors I generally start to calm down, and once I'm through customs in Toronto, I'm even finer (which isn't properly grammatical, I know). As for our pilots, one of them was the standard issue grey-haired and distinguished gentleman of a certain age. The co-pilot (at least I hope) he was the co-pilot) appeared younger than my son by about 6 years. Since my son is 27, I did a bit of a double take when I saw the young fellow. Heh.
