Dept. of Scattershot

Short, Sharp and Stockinged

I'm tired, wired, and my son was mugged last night (OK except for a big bruise across the side of his face; he won the fight for his phone, and was a little chagrined at the fact he apparently tackled the other guy to the ground and went to town on him, because he was so angry about being attacked. I'm ambivalent about his reaction, although I might have done the same; I am glad the guy was stupid enough to do it in front of a police substation, I kid you not.)

But ... but I finally hung my stocking for [community profile] fandom_stocking . Should you so desire, it's here.  I'm trying to work on some things to stuff other stockings, because it's become one of my holiday delights. Holiday delight is much to be treasured, and I want to make holiday delight instead of whinging.

And I need to call my son to see how he's doing.

love to you all,
a very hurried [personal profile] kaffyr

Here's to the speedy and thorough healing of that big bruise and especially of your son's peace of mind as well as his parents' peace of mind.

May your stocking be stuffed to the brim and then some, filled with treats, surprises, and delights.

Thank you so much for your good wishes, my dear; I'll pass them on to FB when next I speak to him.

And I hope your stocking is equally filled over the next little bit of holiday brightness (even if it isn't quite the same type of stocking. Heh.)

Oh, how awful. :-/ Glad he is at least okay (or reasonably so) after that. And the location... 0_o

(...And in more frivolous news, I see your stocking and \o/ for you wanting Sapphire/Steel/Silver. I'm so gleeful about that, it's ridiculous.)

I'm rather gleeful about my new fannish interest, too. Heh. Just finished Assignment Five on Sunday night, and now I want to hurry on to Assignment Six. And oh yes, Sapphire/Steel/Silver is so very, very intriguing and attractive!

:-D ♥ ♥ ♥

Oh, ASSIGNMENT SIX. I was too ill to watch that the first time round; it freaked me out in quite a lot of ways. (And here I'd better stop because I really can't say another word without being spoilery unless I just talk about service stations, which would be odd.)

Aaaand now I'm even more intrigued.

Oh my goodness! I'm glad to hear he's okay, and keeping you all in my thoughts. How scary! And infuriating!
Dec. 12th, 2012 12:45 am (UTC)
Thanks for your thoughts; I checked with FB earlier today, and he seems to be recovering. I did it by phone, though, so I haven't seen the facial damage. I don't know how it'll look to me when I do see it.

OMG!! Glad he's okay and hope that bruise heals quickly. He shouldn't feel bad, he reacted. Terror and adrenaline can make us do things outside of our character. He shouldn't feel too bad.

YAY Stocking!! Hope this is a marvelous holiday season for you, honey...best of luck and happy wishes to you!

Terror and adrenaline can make us do things outside of our character.

FB works hard on being calm and mild, because he knows that when he loses it completely it can be pretty frightful. I say this as the mother who saw some of his youthful tantrums and worked very hard to try to route that negative energy into better channels.

And, yeah, Stocking!!!!!!! Trying to get my mind into the writing of things. Also hunting up recipes for folks for whom I can't write stuff.

Love the icon!

Oh, I'm glad he's okay! That's so scary. :(
Dec. 12th, 2012 01:45 am (UTC)
It was, oddly, less scary than you might think. Probably because it all turned out OK, and I only learned about it afterwards.

That sucks but at least he was on the correct end of the beating. Hopefully he doesn't get charged for it (as happened to my brother-in-law once).

Thanks - for all my ambivalence I, too, am glad he came out on top (apparently literally.)

Hopefully he doesn't get charged for it (as happened to my brother-in-law once).

In my neck of the woods, let's just say that the folks who do the muggings aren't the type of folks who have any kind of access to lawyers except public defenders.

Ugh, how awful. I'm glad it turned out just about as well as it could. Sorry for the stress for him and for you. Hugs!
Dec. 12th, 2012 05:32 pm (UTC)
Thanks for the hugs, my dear! I'm looking forward to seeing him, and giving him some TLC, but the fact that he hasn't dropped by tells me that he's taking this like a city guy ... it happened, and it's done.
Dec. 12th, 2012 05:18 pm (UTC)
Yikes. So glad a bruise and a temporary loss of temper were the only casualties.
Dec. 12th, 2012 05:35 pm (UTC)
You and me both; I know that my reaction would be much less cavalier had this turned out badly for FB. I'm glad I can be as cavalier is he seems to be.

It may be that he's used to it, poor guy; someone did get an iPod off of him a year or so ago. I was talking to a police chief who said muggers go after young hipsters (among which you can number my son, despite his horrified rejection of the term) who walk around with their ears plugged in to phones or music players, because they don't pay attention to their surroundings. That's what happened both times. Last time he wasn't physically assaulted, just threatened, if I recall. He did the wise thing and gave up his iPod the last time. Come to think of it, that may have been why he chose not to let this guy go this time.
Dec. 13th, 2012 07:21 am (UTC)
Well that sucks, to coin a phrase. Bruises go away on their own; I wish his composure and sangfroid a speedy recovery.
Dec. 16th, 2012 11:40 pm (UTC)
He, his bruises, and his composure, are all fairly well repaired at this point.
