Do You Know What's Cool?
Getting to watch the DW Christmas Special with my son. He hadn't seen it before now, since he was already down in southern Indiana when it aired. And he's like me; he's been counting down the days until the second half of S7 starts. So we were able to be Whofen together, as we haven't been able to be for the last three months.
He's a Vastra and Jenny fan. And a Strax fan. He thinks Jenna's a good actress, but wants to see how the chemistry develops between her Clara/Oswin and the Doctor. We agree that we're not sure whether the chemistry should be romantic, or if there should be a touch of romance mixed with lots of other things, or whether it wouldn't be even cooler to have her be a best mate, a la Donna.
But we definitely agree that there needs to be more Vastra and more Jenny.
And probably more Strax.
"Sir! I appear to have been run over by a cab!"
Yeah. More Strax. Especially since he can dish it out to the Doctor ("Sherlock Holmes") as well as take some of the Doctor's rather mean-spirited japes about his head shape.
I love that my son and I have this in common. I love it so very much.

Glad you were able to sit and watch Whovian things with your son, honey - such awesomeness is always better shared! And who better to share it with?

I love Strax, too. "Atomic laser monkeys!"

Yup.
As for family fandom, even my Saint Mother is a bit of a fan (Harry Potter, LotR, occasionally other things), and she used to be the one person who would buy me all the SF books I wanted, partly because, when she was a fairly young mom, she actually brought a bunch of them into the house for me to read. Even though she doesn't read it now, it's in her past, so she's good about understanding me.
