For Geeky Shallow Television Addicts, I mean.

surprise, surprise. It's sad, but we all saw this coming. TWOP just isn't what it was anymore.

Hence my leaving last year and starting Fanboys with denara. It's our answer to what we've lost at TWOP. I think I'm going to start messaging people about it...

I think I'm unhappy because it does follow so logically on what happened last year, and because I enjoy a couple of other forums on the site, and hate to think of what's going to happen. Of course, I don't think The Three have been in charge of quality at any time since they gave up control. In fact, I wonder if their leaving was part of the agreement, regardless of what they might have protested at the time to questioners.

Either that or things have just been so bad for them in the last year that they just can't take it. That wouldn't be surprising either. Maybe they didn't know what they were getting themselves into.

It's interesting though how much more...visible I feel as a poster now with them leaving. Even though I think you're right and they've had very little official involvement since the take-over.

I understand that feeling. One feels as if the only thing looking at you now is some faceless corporate golem, rather than three quirky and opinionated people. It's undoubtedly a matter of perception, but there you go. By the way, I haven't told you how much I enjoy your icons - The League! Hellboy! (Especially the League's Mina!) Cool.

Oh sweet! I had no idea you were a comix fan. Mignola and Moore are by a vast margin my two favorite writers. I eagerly await the new Hellboy movie and continue to be skeptical about The Watchmen movie...

Some of the House group did that mid-August after their moderator became the next Stalin - and their board, House's House of Whining (link's in my profile) now has over 550 members.

The trick is to keep it all under the radar - so using only PM. Also, we were able to read posts before we joined, so we could lurk awhile to see if it was worth it (although I joined Fanboys lastnight - it was worth it). Even with PM, we all had to limit it to five or six people a day, but those people who joined all PMed other people as well.

I went ahead and did it. I also opened up the board so peeps could see it without registering. I can always hide it again later if need be. And yeah, I did everything through PM as I know how crazy they are there and you're not allowed to talk about other message boards in any way that might be suggesting them as opposed to their boards.

I hate that we felt we had to do this at all though. I loved the TWOP DW board so much...but it's just no fun anymore. I mean LINDA is great, but there's no where to actually discuss the show itself. And LJ really does blow for that.

I let the mods at the House board I'm at know about it too as a start - hopefully some will join as several are DW and TW fans. With it still being the workday, only a few people are online over there. But don't despair either, as HHoW has been really quiet during the writer's strike.

oh, i'm not worried. Even if it just ended up being a few of us I think we'll be pretty active once the show actually starts. I just wish we knew when that was.

Yo! BBC! We want an air date!
Mar. 6th, 2008 10:08 pm (UTC)
US starts on April 18th, and from what I heard, the BBC is supposed to be two weeks ahead of us.

Sarah Jane Adventures starts on April 11th.

And may I post about Fanboys in my LJ to lure more people there?

post away!

The latest word is the DWM definitely says April. So I'm betting April 5th...which happens to be my bros 21st bday.

This is NOT cool. Aw, man. I guess I'll be visiting TWoP even *less* than I already had been!

I hope desperately that this won't change the X-Files and DW boards too much, since those are about the only two that I still care about.
Mar. 6th, 2008 07:04 pm (UTC)
Not House, huh. Yeah, it is sad; I rarely visit beyond DW and the Motivator thread on a regular basis, but as I said to grbggrl, there are a couple when the shows are in season: Project Runway and BSG, and I really, really don't want them to change.
Mar. 6th, 2008 07:30 pm (UTC)
Nope, I quit the House board (even though it was the one that brought me to TWoP in the first place) after TWoP Nikita (the new mod there) was revealed to be a control-freak who banned one of my friends in the meet market for no good reason.

Mar. 6th, 2008 09:45 pm (UTC)
Several of the main posters in the House forum left and formed House's House of Whining (http://www.houseofwhining.com). So, their portion of the board has been deserted since early August.
Mar. 6th, 2008 06:46 pm (UTC)
Awwww, crap. I kind of feel like crying, which is probably ridiculous. MAN. Grrr.

I really hope the DW and XF boards stay happy and fun, though. :(
Mar. 6th, 2008 07:22 pm (UTC)
I knew it was coming. I complained to them at one point in mid-September or so after many sour changes (and was rewarded with a banning of my sock-puppet - the HHoW ladies know the details). Now they've officially become another corporate project whose sole purpose is to suck the life out of subversiveness and free ideas.

The end of an era always comes hard.
