And I am so very glad I have a chance to show you what she looks like right now.

We had a very good visit this morning; the joy in her face when I walked in to the hospital was wonderful. We spent a lot of time with our arms around each other, which is very important for both of us. And I am looking forward to visits every day. (I probably will visit her again tonight with my stepdad. My brother made certain I have access to a car, which allows me to help him get to the hospital, rather than him having to take one of the infrequent buses.)

There's so much I could say but what I'll say right now is that today was good. We talked about life, about forgetting, about dying, and these are all things we needed to talk about.

And when I wandered into the center of town after my visit, I stopped at the lone bookstore to check on a book of poetry I wanted - and lo and behold, there was a childhood friend who now lives about 60 miles away, who I'd visited back in April, but who I'd had no idea I'd have a chance to visit. So we had a lovely cup of coffee, and here I am, typing up a post to all of you before I go back to my mom's place (AKA "there are no connections manor".)

So, yes, a good day, as these kinds of days go. I hope your various Saturdays also went well.

You look very like her.

As I have always thought she was and is beautiful, I thank you very much!

Yes, I see your face in hers, much as I know it's that her face is carried on in yours. I love both pictures, for different reasons. In the second, the way her hand is cradling yours as you are cradling her in your arms...my heart melts with joy for the love the two of you so obviously share.

My heart melted all over again when I read about how important holding each other is for both of you, especially right now as I've spent a week immersed in how important the same thing is for both Susan and Gavi. And, oh, today's conversation, talking about things the two of you needed to talk about. What a gift. A hard gift, one I had the treasure of having with both my parents. More directly and rationally with my dad than with my mom, but it was even a comfort with her, diminished as her capacities became as life's end drew nearer still.

I'm glad you had a good day on the spectrum of how these kinds of days go. It's a good day here at Toad Woods, too.

In the second, the way her hand is cradling yours as you are cradling her in your arms.

Thank you, my dear. She and I were talking this morning about how important holding hands is to us, and how we used to do that all the time.

There is more talking to be done, but it was a good start.

Oh, thank you ; it's so good to hear from you! I love your icon, as well; it's gorgeous.

Yes, I have been a bit MIA this summer - busy at work, etc etc. Never doubt that my love is with you!

The icons cropped from a painting called 'Loves Messenger'. It's by one of the few female pre-raphaelite painters, Maria Spartali-Stillman (she also posed, as one of the 'Stunners' in their circle).

I'd not heard of her before going to an exhibition of Pre-Raphealites from the Delaware Collection @ Nottingham Castle (with Pandrea, IRRC!), but I love some of her stuff now. I'm also rather fond of some of the works she modelled for!

I just though it was an approriate icon, glad you liked it!

Oh, I appreciate the information on Spartali-Stillman, who I recollected (albeit solely as Maria Stillman from my incomplete memories)once you mentioned her. Hurrah for her managing to have broken into that boys' club. And the name of the painting is appropriate, definitely.

Thank you. I showed my mother the big red heart from Chicago, and she liked it a great deal.

Thank you - I had a lovely, lovely lady to photograph. I intend to take more of her, especially if the doctors let her out on a day trip with me.

What wonderful pictures!

I'm so glad you're having this good, solid, sweet, precious time with your mom.

It is a good time, and she is both sweet and precious. (Did your travel paper problem get itself sorted out?)

Not yet - we're spending a few more days settling in and buying things for our new house before we cross the border and try the consulate that's near our current location. We'll update when we find out more. Thanks for asking!

I will be sending out hopes that the universe is good to you, because I can think of few people as deserving.

I told her all about the wonderful people I know all over the world, thanks to Teh Intarwebz, including amazing people from Louisville.

*hugs tight right back*

Aww, sweetie... Bless you both. I hope she knows what a wonderful daughter she has (though I'm quite sure she does!) and how lucky we are that she shares you with us all! Especially the crazy people from Louisville. *Grins*

Hubby, me and the babies send love!

Please send my love back to the babies and the inimitable hubby! And be sure to reserve a great deal of it for yourself.
