Happy May Day, Now That It's Almost Over

I had a wonderful evening with BB last night. I enjoyed all the lovely bubbly I had (3 tulip's worth, which probably isn't all that much.)

What I didn't enjoy is the hangover I had. From three glasses of asti spumante. I am so very, very old. 

I can't understand why I don't get any kind of hangover from a gin martini or two, and suffer quite noticeably with the wine.

I did finish my MCU/Who crossover, and it's been posted to the requisite 
[community profile] fandom_stocking  stocking. I hope its recipient likes it.

Suffering from wine may be an indication of an intolerance or allergy to one of the components. A friend of mine found he couldn't drink beers or wine without getting splitting headaches because of the use to make them. The only exception was Piat d'or and he never knew why that was the case.

I'm definitely used to red wines giving me headaches, but this was a white wine. I can't help wondering if the hangover stemmed from the fact that it wasn't a still wine, but a bubbly.

Yeast is the word missing from my comment.

I suspect it isn't the bubbles as that is just carbonation so unless carbonated drinks always have that effect I suspect it is some additive in the wine. I remember the scandal a few decades back when it was found that some Italian winemakers were adding all sorts of crap to their wines ranging from animal blood to diethylene glycol (iirc). The was a similar scandal involving Austrian wines according to wikipedia.

Edited to add that methanol had also been added to some wines to increase alcohol content.

Animal blood???

Bloody hell. (Huh. Inadvertent pun. And I actually like blood sausage and blood pudding, and duck's blood soup - yum! - so maybe I'd go for that.
