Dept. of Long Time, No Post

Again, I'm Trying Again

Perhaps I should stop using Twitter; my attention span has melted like snow, and my ability to think cogent, long-form thoughts has melted along with it.  Three times I've tried to write a post worth someone's time; three times I've failed. And we're not talking about the multiple days that I just didn't try to begin with, or the multiple days I didn't read my f'list, or, reading, did not comment.

Ah, me. As we are wont to say in our house about whinging too damned much: Grumble, grumble, grumble, whale meat again.

(Hey, it's a thing. A kaffyr and BB and FB thing. ... Ahem ... Perhaps one had to be there?)

In new TMI news, I went through roughly a week of intermittent nausea that became absolutely awful on Saturday. One doctor's visit later, I need to get a gallbladder scan, and I've been told to lose a little weight, cut the caffeine and cut my stress. Cut my caffeine? Eurgh. I already don't drink coffee much anymore. Cut my weight? Yeah, probably.

Cut my stress?

Oops. Thinking out loud again.

Perhaps we are related, heh?

We might be at that, since you and I share an enjoyment of at least some old television, intermittent lack of spoons, and an inability to withstand too much heat. (I used to love the heat, and my mind still does, but I've discovered that too many days in the high 80s and 90s, especially with mugginess, no longer treats me well. And tomorrow it's supposed to be in the 90s, with heat indexes up in the 100s. Ah, well, air conditioning is a wonderful thing.)

You had a relative held captive in Canada? My eyes are wide! By who was he held captive? This is fascinating!

And thanks so much for the hugs; they are always welcome.

Heh, definitely related! (Somewhere, a few millennia ago or something. ;-p)

I hope the heat isn't too awful (or at least, many blessing on the magic Air Conditioning). :-/

He was a mumble-times great uncle, and he was captured by the Nuu-chah-nulth, having the misfortune to be on board the next ship to arrive after the Nuu-chah-nulth had got fed up with white traders behaving badly and they attacked and massacred everyone on board but spared my relative because he was a ship's smith and they wanted his skills. (They also spared the sailmaker). This is him. I believe I'm descended from his elder brother but it's being difficult to prove or disprove absolutely. However, I have lots of things to indicate that they have the same father and the only actual thing I have against is that I'm sceptical of ever being related to someone you can look up on Wikipedia.

But anyway, his journal was a lot about working as a slave, eating whale blubber and despairing of ever being rescued.

I just read the entry beyond your link (goodness, that sounds like a book title, doesn't it?) I was right; it was fascinating.
