Dept. of Union Stuff

My First Day of Vacation

I am in union negotiations. Yay.

And one of the folks across the table from me is a World Class Grade A Union-Hating Dick.

A fucking dick.

Obviously, with everything that has been going on for the second and third week of May, I missed a lot, and only managed to catch up on some of this week. And even then, I only had so much time to comment, because Memorial Day deadlines.

Which is a long-winded way of saying that it sounds like the past three weeks haven't been too kind to you, either, and I am sorry. Talking to some other Pioneer Press reporters, I got an impression that you guys are being asked to do more work than ever before, and spread yourself thin over more suburbs than ever before, which is, to put it mildly, concerning. And, more to the topic of this post specifically, with Tronc's purchase of Wrapports, I am very cocnerned about what this means for the Chicago News Guild, and reporters like you and the others.

Thanks; I've read the most recent of your f'locked posts and good lord, you've had a lot to deal with. (Also? You are a good human being. I mean that.)

We are stretched incredibly thin, but this prick is on record as saying he thinks we're lazy, that we just don't like to be managed. He's told me to my face "I don't believe you," when I've tried to talk about some of the unreasonable things that reporters are being put through in the Pioneer (lack of) newsroom.

Yeah, ask me how much I like being called a liar to my face.

You might want to check my most recent post: it give everyone at least a tiny tool to let the Department of Justice know what you think of killing the Sun-Times - which is what will happen if tronc gets it. Some of my comments over on the Dreamwidth side add a little bit of context. It's not f'locked - I'm getting to the point where I don't give a shit - so you can definitely go over and read the comments.
