Dept. of Hey! December!

In Which Visitors Come to Casa [personal profile] kaffyr

I certainly remember all of you folks, and it's good to get back in the swing of things. I had so many things I thought I'd post about over the last couple of weeks (The Tragic Affair of the Squeaking Mouse being one of them), but I never got around to doing so. Perhaps I can get started again this month, which promises to be a busy one for me.

At least one lovely thing that happened at the end of November was a very brief visit from two young online friends who I've known in 2D world since about 2006 or 2007, sisters mack_the_spoon and namarie24, who were in town to celebrate their birthdays with a viewing of the Chicago version of "Hamilton." It was far too short a visit, and as it came during a) my working week deadline day and b) a week in which union pressures were building - and was a necessarily short stay for them before they headed out to other cities - I did not get a real chance to sit and talk to them. Since they saw me in one of my more fluttery, worry-wartish modes, I am glad that they didn't simply back away slowly and find a motel somewhere.

I also didn't really wish them Happy Birthday in the way I would have liked to, but now I can say I hope that these two intelligent, kind, observant, fannish, hardworking young women of faith have a wonderful year to come.

And here's a photo (under a cut because it's a big picture) I snapped just before they headed off. I believe its Nam on the left and Mack on the left (but I'm sure they'll be here shortly to tell me that I got it wrong. Again. Heh.

Fandom visits, how lovely! :D

It was a wonderful visit; I'm just sorry about the timing making me unavailable most of the time, and flibberty-jibbet during the time I was available.

That's unlucky indeed—bad timing is bad :/ Oh well!

Identical twins?

Indeed they are, and possibly the most identical twins I've ever met.

I have two young friends here in Chicago, one of them the daughter of my heart. Although they, too, are identical twins, one of them had problems in the womb and is ever so slightly smaller, with a slightly different bone structure in her face because of that difficulty. Even though the differences help me tell them apart, I mixed them up on one occasion when I hadn't seen either for some time.

Mac and Nam? In no way was I able to differentiate.

My Whovian friends the Wonder Twins are identical and almost impossible to tell apart, since they dress the same, have the same haircut, and even the same glasses. They cosplay as the Osgoods, which is pretty funny.

So it's a million years late, but here I am, commenting!

We had a lovely time with you, BB, and your excellent kitties. I'm sorry the timing didn't work out quite as well as we all would have liked, but we were very happy to have the chance to meet you in person!
It was far too short of a visit, indeed - just means we'll have to come back again next time we're stateside. :) Plus, we only scratched the surface of what's available to see and do in Chicago, I know.

And thank you for the birthday wishes! It was a very good, very memorable one.

Don't mind being a million years late, seeing as how I'm completely unable to respond in a responsible manner. It would be wonderful to see you again, although I'm cheering your success in heading off across the Pacific after the holidays.
