Dept. of Unasked-For Emotion

Tears of Neither Joy Nor Sorrow

What do you call the tears that come when you're listening to an entire stadium of people singing along to a song that's close to your heart, especially one that talks about love in some fashion?

It's not sorrow, not directly. It's sure as hell not unalloyed joy, either.

Perhaps it's one's heart wishing hard for the same sort of commonality, the same sense of shared humanity, everywhere, and knowing it won't last, but still being uplifted by the mass sharing.

I don't know.

Thoughts? Anyone? Bueller?

Simply human emotion, perhaps? Just feeling moved by the moment, like a kind of longing being awoken from deep within yourself…

Longing - yes, that's what it is! Thank you!

My people would call it "солидарность" - which, yes, literally means "solidarity," but in this context, it means a sense of togetherness around the same feeling.

Togetherness, mixed with longing, which is what flowsoffire, above, mentioned. The two things come together well, to describe what I sometimes feel. My thanks.
