I am so with you on that.

I hadn't realized I'd reached some sort of tipping point until it came. I've regained a bit of my balance back, as of 9:01 p.m. Chicago time.

hehe. It was uh interesting as they say.

Oct. 8th, 2008 02:11 am (UTC)
I'm still listening to it, and it's making me crazy. I'm just a little more balanced in the craziness.

For some reason I'm missing Ev Dirkson about now. At least he was entertaining Maybe I'm just old and weird

A million here, a million there ....

(Hi there!)

Hi There!
I know I'm getting bad when I'm missing pols like Ev and Vito Marzullo. Actually I still think if Ralph Metcalf had lived he would have been Chicago's 1st black mayor, and deservedly so. At least you knew exactly where you stood with the old guys. Miss you folks Give BB a hug for me.
Oct. 8th, 2008 02:49 am (UTC)
Hug given, BB sends hugs back, and says he never thought he'd miss Barry Goldwater.
Oct. 8th, 2008 03:12 am (UTC)
Tell BB I echo that one. And who'da thunk it?
Oct. 8th, 2008 04:07 am (UTC)
Well, Arizona had to have something going for it beyond spectacular sunsets and gila monsters, and since McCain doesn't qualify ....

Breathe, breathe in the air
Don't be afraid to care
Leave, but don't leave me
Look around
Choose your own ground

Long you live and high you fly
And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry
And all you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be

And so on...
Oct. 8th, 2008 02:42 am (UTC)
OK, says the slow lady...whence those lovely lyrics?
Oct. 8th, 2008 12:31 pm (UTC)
Pink Floyd-Breathe
Oct. 8th, 2008 03:31 pm (UTC)
Oh, for heaven's sake. No wonder I thought they were lovely. I love the song. How dim is that?

Oct. 8th, 2008 03:18 am (UTC)
So, um, I've been working on other things and planned to read it, at least. What happened?

Just as well I didn't watch, then!

I think it got better towards the end, but BB's right - no real discussion, no real debate, just regurgitations of stump speeches. On the other hand, after the debate, Obama and his wife stuck around the debate studio to talk to the audience. McCain and his wife took off post-haste. I think that says something.
Oct. 8th, 2008 03:33 am (UTC)
You mentioned something about McCain's Depends, as I recall.

McCain also ignored Obama's handshake. And called him "that one." And said "my friends" so much I wanted to scream. Ugh. I did not enjoy this debate.
Oct. 8th, 2008 04:08 am (UTC)
Dear Lord Jeebus, I didn't see the handshake-diss. The "that one" immediately sounded like a blooper reel favorite. My friends? Are not his.
Oct. 8th, 2008 04:12 am (UTC)
But youtube is your friend! :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WI0iIOqPGak

Ugh. He was all creepy and up in the audience's faces too. Talking to the audience is one thing, touching them is another. (this may be my need for dance space talking here.)

At least everyone's saying Obama won.
Oct. 8th, 2008 04:37 am (UTC)
Yeah, but he needs to sharpen his game and show me more of what I think he has. He's not stepping up the way he should.
Oct. 8th, 2008 11:53 pm (UTC)
Yeah, the news on TV & paper are saying the same thing.
Oct. 9th, 2008 04:30 am (UTC)
I knew there was a good reason I ignored the whole thing. I'm busy trying to live my life. I mean, come on, what are the odds my vote would get swayed? Huh? About like the odds of the LHC accidentally destroying the universe.

However, I do have a small, random collection of Barry Goldwater quotes accumulated in my .sig file. So, for your delectation:

When Sandra Day O'Connor was nominated to the Supreme Court in 1981, Jerry Falwell told the news media that "every good Christian should be concerned." Barry Goldwater replied, "Every good Christian should line up and kick Jerry Falwell's ass."

Now those who seek absolute power, even though they seek it to do what they regard as good, are simply demanding the right to enforce their own version of heaven on earth, and let me remind you they are the very ones who always create the most hellish tyranny.
-- Barry Goldwater

I've spent quite a number of years carrying the flag of the 'Old Conservatism.' And I can say with conviction that the religious issues of these groups have little or nothing to do with conservative or liberal politics. The uncompromising position of these groups is a divisive element that could tear apart the very spirit of our representative system, if they gain sufficient strength.
-- Barry Goldwater, Sept. 15, 1981

A lot of so-called conservatives don't know what the word means. They think I've turned liberal because I believe a woman has a right to an abortion. That's a decision that's up to the pregnant woman, not up to the pope or some do-gooders or the Religious Right.
-- Barry Goldwater, 1994

I read these to BB and he said, "I knew there was a reason I liked him, even though I never thought I'd say I missed him!"
