Fun with socio-history

A Quick Lesson in Common Sense
Rick Jacob, to whose latest Huffpost column I direct you, has, in the two sentences which follow, eloquently laid forth the reasons my blood pressure skyrockets when people say anything along the line of, "god says marriage is only for one man and one woman:"
"The bedrock of marriage is in fact economic, not spiritual. Were it not the basis of ownership and property for couples who enter into it, the state would stay out of the business of marriage and leave it all up to religious institutions."
The rest of the column is excellent, too.

Facts not in evidence, dear heart. The government always engages in social engineering, too.

Marriage has always been economic, dressed up in whatever quasi-religio/what-have-you rags came easily to hand. That, and a way of proving that the babies were Guy A's and not That Other Guy's.

We're talking millenia here, my dear, so a discussion about evil socialist governments is orthogonal to the matter at hand.

If, the anti-discrimination laws had been aimed at full citizenship for women, I think we'd still be fighting them.
