Goodbye, Nurse
Majel Barrett Roddenberry, the best Number One to never have been featured in Star Trek, and the coolest nurse to ever be in love with Mr. Spock, has left us. She was smart, devoted to the Universe According to her beloved Gene Roddenberry, and someone I think I would have liked. I'll miss having her in this Universe.  (And, although I admit I'm probably in the minority, I loved Andromeda, the show on which she was an executive producer.)

Definitely sad news when I heard that yesterday. She will be missed.

I started watching Andromeda (I have a tag for my thoughts on the show on my LJ) but only made it halfway through the second season. I liked it well enough but wasn't compelled to keep going. I keep meaning to revisit it but...eh.

My favorite Majel-produced show was Earth: Final Conflict. I watched every single episode of that sucker and was just completely involved in the meandering storylines and changing characters.

She will be missed, indeed.

I was always tickled that she stayed inside the skiffy universe via the shows she backed. I remember liking Earth: Final Conflict, but losing track of it in a welter of changed air times and weekdates. It was shown on WGN around here, so that might explain it.

(By the way, I have always liked that icon - am I crazy, or is it Claudia Black, playing some sort of vampire?)

Yes! She's playing Pandora in "Queen of the Damned". I love that movie more than I really should admit. I saw it before I saw any Farscape but Ms. Black captivated me in what is essentially a line-less role.

I must confess, the parts of Queen of the Damned which I saw - before others in my household switched the channel most cruelly - I didn't mind. And if Claudia is in the movie, then, hell, of course I'd watch!

I liked Andromeda quite a bit, at least the early years, when it was still a crossover between the classic lantern-jawed hero adventure series and the contemporary edgy antiheroic black-leather-clad-rebel-without-a-cause action shows they make now. It kind of lost its way when its creator was fired as script editor, but Majel had lured Kevin on with the promise of creative control and a haircut, so what can you do.

I came in to the series in the last two seasons or so, and that "personality" was what drew me in. Luckily, as I found the first few seasons, I liked them as well.
